Departmental Awards

This scholarship will be awarded by the Department of Anthropology’s Undergraduate Committee to a student submitting a short personal statement exploring the ways in which they are engaging with Archaeology and Anthropology outside of the classroom. This award is currently inactive. 

Personal Statement Contest (Fall 2021 Rules)

This scholarship will be awarded by the Department of Anthropology's Undergraduate Committee to a student submitting a short essay exploring why they chose to major or minor in Anthropology and what the field means to them.

Essay Contest (Fall 2023 Rules)

The Department of Anthropology awards the Outstanding Anthropology Student Award to a senior Anthropology major. The award includes a cash prize of $100. All departmental faculty will decide together on which student will be given the award. Areas of candidacy consideration may include, but are not limited to, academic success, anthropology- related non-academic work, and participation in anthropology-related organizations (e.g., Anthropology Student Association). There is no nomination or application process outside of the faculty's discussion(s) about candidates. 

Non-Departmental Awards

This award is for a project (i.e., research, scholarship, creative activity) in collaboration with a College of Arts and Sciences faculty sponsor. The funds of up to $1,000 per recipient go towards materials and/or supplies. Find out more!

This fellowship supports participation in a summer or semester-long advanced language study program or for students conducting structured term-long research abroad (e.g., the Magellan Program). The funds of up to $2,500 go towards advanced language study, research using local language source materials, and/or other international research pursuits. Find out more!

This award is for a project (i.e., research, scholarship, creative activity) in collaboration with a mentor. The funds of up to $1,000 per recipient go towards salary, materials and/or travel. Find out more!

This award is for a project (i.e., research, scholarship, creative activity) in collaboration with a mentor. The funds of up to $500 provide a one-time stipend. Recipients must be first- or second-year students from one or both of the following populations: TRIO Opportunity Scholars or students underrepresented in research. Alternatively, recipients must be transfer students from a 2-year campus, community, or technical college. Find out more!

This award is for a project (i.e., research, scholarship, creative activity) in collaboration with a mentor. The funds provide student salary of up to $1,500. $500 of the salary can be used for travel, research and/or conference travel. The funds also provide $500 to the mentor for professional development, research supplies, and/or academic-related travel. Recipients must be TRIO McNair Scholars. Find out more!

This award is for a project (i.e., research, scholarship, creative activity) in collaboration with a mentor. The funds of up to $1,000 go towards salary/stipend for one semester of research. Students without access to other awards, grants, or funds may be eligible for an additional semester of funding. Travel support for a conference/meeting presentation may also be available. Recipients must be first- or second-year students from one or more of the following populations: TRIO Opportunity Scholars, Capstone Scholars, SC Honors College students, or students underrepresented in research. This award is for a project (i.e., research, scholarship, creative activity) in collaboration with a faculty mentor. The funds of up to $3,000 per recipient go towards salary, materials and/or travel. Recipients must have a minimum institutional GPA of 3.300. Find out more!

This award is for travel expenses to share research at a regional, national or international meeting. The funds of up to $500 go towards airfare, mileage, lodging and/or registration. Find out more!
