Allendale
Since the 1980's the underwater team at SCIAA has assisted Dr. Al Goodyear and the South Eastern Paleo-American Survey with underwater investigations of a prehistoric chert quarry in Smiths Lake Creek.
Charlesfort
In 1989, the Division teamed up with Drs. Stanley South and Chester DePratter to look for evidence of Charlesfort, an early French fortification located on Parris Island, Beaufort County, South Carolina. The fort has since been identified under the Spanish fort of Santa Elena.
Combahee River
The MRD teamed up with Dr. Chester DePratter in 2013 and 2014 to conduct underwater investigations in the Combahee River. The team are looking for evidence of a Yemassee Indian village believed to be washing out of the river bank.
Mulberry Mound
In 1985 and 1988, the MRD conducted an underwater survey of the Wateree River at Mulberry Mound. The Mulberry Mound site is a large, multiple mound and village complex dating from the Mississippian prehistoric period.
