An International Student's Fall Break

Told by Salman, a sophomore electrical engineering student from Saudi Arabia.

Thankfully, the state of South Carolina is located in a wonderful place that makes it close to many beautiful places in the US. I took advantage of that during my fall break and went to The Great Smoky Mountains. I got the chance to see amazing views and feel good vibes. It’s definitely a trip that I will always remember.

Today’s the Monday after fall break, I started my day by going to an early Statistics class at 8:30 am. Following, I took advantage of a two hour break from classes to have a small breakfast with a refreshing cup of coffee from Panera and finished some assignments in the library.

At 12:00 pm, I’m a peer leader for UNIV150 which is a course specially designed to help new international students explore their university from every different angle. Luckily, our activity for today was taking advantage of the free cooking classes that are provided in the University Health Center. We all worked together to follow cooking instructions and made an amazing lunch made of chicken and vegetables and it turned out to be very delicious. It was a really fun class.

Later in the afternoon, I went to my remaining two classes that are Electrical and Programming. Around 5:00 pm, I started my workout at Strom Fitness Center which is one of the best gyms I’ve ever seen and luckily it’s part of UofSC.

In the evening of the first day after Fall Break, you can’t do anything but go to the South Carolina State Fair. Which is an annual fair that lasts for 12 days during October. I always describe and relate what I see in the fair with what I saw in many American movies back in my country.

Before I finally go to sleep, I‘ll take a look at my courses and think about how I can improve more and more.

What a Monday it was!!
