The University of South Carolina is an internationally recognized research university with a 200-year history of excellence in undergraduate studies.
Building upon a foundation of learning in the liberal arts and sciences during the first year, USC students are able to choose from nearly 100 program majors in specialized areas as they progress. At the next level, students are encouraged to explore leadership and co-curricular learning opportunities beyond the classroom, studio and laboratory, and to integrate those experiences as they prepare for success after graduation.
At Carolina, students have the resources they need to make the most of their undergraduate experience.
Making the Most of a Carolina Education
Traditional study begins with our nationally-recognized First-Year Reading Experience, the opening academic event for each entering class. New students take classes in the Carolina Core, our general education curriculum, laying the foundation for work in the program majors. Faculty and advisors work closely with students to help them excel.
Our signature beyond-the-classroom learning program, USC Connect, enables students to participate in research, service, international study, campus leadership, or internship experiences. Making connections between traditional classroom and beyond-the-classroom experiences brings learning to life and deepens understanding.
From academic advising and academic support services to assistance with preparation for national and international fellowships and scholarships, Carolina is a diverse university with numerous resources to help every student succeed.
Many students today also want the flexibility to study when and how they want. Carolina offers many distributed learning or online course and degree options as well as innovative programs such as Back to Carolina for returning students.
