Leadership Development
We focus on developing and cultivating leadership skills through a variety of hands-on experiences, enabling students to grow both personally and professionally. Capstone Scholars engage in specialized programming that fosters critical thinking, communication, enabling others to act, modeling the way, and teamwork, all essential qualities of effective leaders. These include our 8-week leadership course in the Spring semester, ropes course, and personal challenge all designed to growth well-round student leaders.
Social and Professional Development Programming
Capstone Scholars have access to exclusive social events like Hot Cookie Friday! It's a laid-back and enjoyable way to build a sense of community among students, staff, and campus partners while engaging in informal conversations about the various resources, opportunities, and upcoming events. Capstone Scholars can also attend professional development events that are tailored to students' individual career interests and goals.
Study Abroad and Research Opportunities
Capstone Scholars are encouraged to engage with the world beyond the classroom through short-term study abroad programs during Spring Break and Maymester. Students also have the opportunity to work alongside faculty on research projects in their own areas of interest. These experiences help students broaden their global perspectives, while also contributing to their academic and professional portfolios.
Service and Community Engagement
Capstone Scholars are also given opportunities to participate in community service experiences allowing them to develop a sense of civic responsibility. Services is integrated into the program to reinforce the value of community involvement.
A Personable Experience
Meet individually with Capstone Scholars staff members to share your goals and learn about opportunities on campus. They will help you make the most of your Carolina experience beyond the classroom!
Living With Us
Capstone Scholars are encouraged to live in Capstone House with other Capstone Scholars where it is easy to meet other Capstone Scholars. However, it is not required to live in Capstone House, and Capstone Scholars are able to live anywhere on campus! Housing's residence hall site offers samples of floor plans for each community on campus, including traditional and apartment arrangements.
