Capstone Scholars

Life as a Capstone Scholar

Take advantage of a supportive community dedicted to helping you succeed achemically, personally, socially, and professionally during your first two years at the University of South Carolina.

Shared Experiences

You participate in shared academic experiences, leadership development, service, undergraduate research, global learning and curated programming designed to support your personal and professional growth.

You have the opportunity to take a Capstone Scholars section of  University 101, a nationally recognized first-year course that helps you explore campus resources, connect with peers and build a strong foundation for success. Additionally, we offer First Year English courses featuring unique themes exclusive to Capstone Scholars.

A Personable Experience

The program intentionally brings together students who have demonstrated strong academic achievement and a desire to make the most of their college experience. As a scholar, you will join a motivated cohort of peers who value connection, growth and meaningful engagement both inside and outside the classroom.

Capstone Scholars is designed to provide a smaller community within the larger university experience that creates space for relationships, mentorship and belonging from the moment you arrive on campus. You will take advantage of:

  • Meaningful peer connections and a supportive, close-knit cohort
  • Access to full-time Capstone Scholars staff who guide academic, personal and professional growth
  • Opportunities to engage in shared academic and leadership experiences that only offered to Capstone Scholars

As an out-of-state student, I took great comfort in the unwavering support and engagement offered by the Capstone Scholars community. Its faculty continues to stand alongside me at all steps of my college career. They provide the tailored tools and resources needed to push me as a student, peer and leader. By taking part in program-led events and developing meaningful relationships with fellow scholars, I unlocked new facets of myself beyond the walls of the classroom. Without the leadership and service opportunities granted to Capstone students, I would not be the emerging professional I am today.
