Lift Your Citizenship Verification Hold

Have your Citizenship Verification Hold lifted by uploading your immigration documents to the ISSM portal. All documents must be uploaded as PDFs.

Steps for New International Student Check-In

You will receive an email inviting you to create a portal account with the subject line International Student Portal –Account Creation. Follow the steps to have your student portal account created.

Confirming Your Portal Account: After registering your portal account, you will need to check your email again to confirm your portal account and actually start using it. You must follow the link in the email with the subject International Student Poral - Registration Confirmation Link to actually log in to your Portal account and begin the upload of your documents. 

Email: Make sure you are accessing the Portal using the link in the invitation email sent to your USC email address. It is not possible to log into the Portal until you are formally invited. Make sure you are entering your complete USC email address. 

Last Name/Family Name: When you log into the Portal for the first time, enter your Last Name/Family Name exactly as it appears in your passport. Make sure there are no blank or empty spaces before or after your name. 

Date of Birth: Enter your date of birth in mm/dd/yyyy format. (Example: If you were born on January 3, 1995, you should enter 01/03/1995.) 

Country of Citizenship: For immigration purposes, you must declare a single country of citizenship. Our office has used your passport to determine your country of citizenship in our records.

To add a file, click Add a new document, then the Submit for Approval button.

You must have entered the U.S. using your student visa to upload this document. The earliest you can enter is December 2—see the “Earliest Admission Date” on your I-20 to confirm this date.

Upload within 2 days of the arriving to the U.S. ISSS will register your SEVIS record with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security after you upload your I-94.

How to retrieve your I-94:

  • Go to the CBP website
  • Click "Get Most Recent I-94"
  • Read the text then click "Consent & Continue"
  • Type in your Traveler information
  • Click "Next"
  • Your I-94 should pop up on the next page. Click "Print"
  • Save as PDF

The F-1 or J-1 visa page in your passport.

Do not upload your I-20 or DS-2019.

All permanent residents, H-4 or H-1B visa holders, DACA individuals, or any other non-US citizen without an F-1 or J-1 visa: see this section of the ISSS website.

Students must update the current address shown in my.sc.edu within 10 days of moving to their South Carolina residence. Failure to update this information will result in your classes being dropped.

ONLY .pdf copies will be accepted. Note: there will likely be additionally holds on your my.sc.edu account that must be lifted by other USC offices.
