Department hires Samuel Bagg (Duke 2017) as an Assistant Professor in Political Theory

The department is very pleased to welcome Dr. Samuel Bagg as an Assistant Professor in Political Theory, beginning in Fall 2022. Dr. Bagg received his Ph.D. from Duke University in 2017 and is currently Departmental Lecturer and Postdoctoral Prize Research Fellow in the Department of Politics and International Relations and Nuffield College at Oxford University. His work aims to reimagine democratic priorities in light of a realistic appraisal of the dynamics of social inequality and political power. His research has appeared in or been accepted for publication in a variety of journals, including the American Political Science Review, the American Journal of Political Science, the Journal of PoliticsPerspectives on Politics, the Journal of Political Philosophy, and the European Journal of Political Theory. His book, The Dispersion of Power: A Critical Realist Theory of Democracy, is forthcoming from Oxford University Press.
