Meet the Students
Through externships and technician positions across the country, our BSN students are putting their knowledge into practice: gaining hands-on experience that builds their clinical skills, fuels their confidence and helps them discover the specialties where they feel called to make a difference. Through the numerous specialties to choose from, these immersive opportunities empower our future nurses to step boldly into the careers they’re meant for.
During my L&D externship at Northside Atlanta, I gained various clinical skills and was exposed to a wide range of high-acuity situations that pushed me to learn. But more importantly, I learned how to be a person in the role of a nurse - how to show up for patients in joy, heartbreak, and everything in between. I’ve learned to trust my gut when something simply doesn’t feel right and act with confidence. None of that comes from a textbook - it comes from experience, and this will be beneficial as a nurse no matter where I end up.
The most rewarding part of my summer externship was realizing the impact I could have on a patient’s health and experience. In Labor & Delivery, being with mothers on one of the most important days of their lives,helping bring life into the world was incredibly moving. No matter how many births I witnessed, the beauty of each moment never failed to bring tears to my eyes. That experience truly deepened my passion for this specialty.
