Dr. Vicki Vance is the Wade T. Batson Jr. Professor of Botany in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of South Carolina, where she began her career as a tenure track faculty member in 1989. Her area of expertise is molecular biology, and her research has focused on plant virology, anti-viral defense pathways, and RNA interference (RNAi) pathways in a variety of plant systems. Her most current research is aimed at obtaining further support for the transformative concept that ingestion of tumor suppressor microRNAs (miRNAs) produced in bioengineered plants can be an effective chemopreventive strategy against colon cancer and other diseases.
