Holly Fisher
Newly
promoted Electronic Media Editor of the Charleston Regional Business
Journal, Holly Fisher, is putting her master’s degree
from the School of Journalism and Mass Communications to good use.
Fisher is the first staff member in the new electronic media department
at her company. She is the designer and creator of SCBIZ, the online
version of the quarterly magazine. “We are in the midst
of launching the new Web site and planning to redesign our Charleston
Regional Business Journal Web site, so I find it challenging and
exciting to keep up with all the technology and ideas that are
available,” said Fisher.
Fisher went to Ohio University for her undergraduate studies,
but attended USC for her master’s degree in order to focus
her time and energy on one subject. “I received my Master’s
of Mass Communication from USC, which helps me in my job today
more than a bachelor’s degree. I believe you can never have
too much education and pursuing a master’s degree was something
I always knew I wanted to do,” said Fisher. Some of the most
useful USC courses in Fisher’s job today include business
management and courses about integrated marketing and communications.
On top of being the pioneer in the electronic world at Charleston
Regional, she spends her time teaching courses at the College of
Charleston. “I knew that I might want to teach someday and
having a master’s is the only way I could achieve that. It’s
important to be diverse in your skills and interest,” said
Fisher.
She has been the on the national board of directors for the Society
of Professional Journalists for more than five years. “It’s
tough the first two years of your career in the journalism field
and it’s good to be a part of the Society to connect with
professionals, develop opportunities and network,” said Fisher.
