Bringing back the spirit: Homecoming 2007
The College of Mass Communications and Information Studies encouraged
its alumni and friends to “bring back the spirit” at
Carolina for Homecoming 2007 through a variety of events and presentations.
Classroom Visits
Alumni award recipients Jack Claypoole and Ainsley Earhardt visited
campus on Thursday, September 27, to talk to students in the
School of Journalism and Mass Communications. They discussed
their experiences as students and as professionals, and gave
valuable advice to students on how to be successful in the field
of journalism.

Alumni Awards Dinner
The School of Journalism and Mass Communications Alumni
Awards Dinner was held on Thursday, September 27, at the Summit
Club in Columbia. The School honored three of its alumni at the
dinner. Jack Claypoole received the 2007 Distinguished Alumnus
Award; Ainsley Earhardt McKinney received the 2007 Outstanding
Young Alumna Award and Bud Tibshrany received the School’s
first Alumni Service Award.

Alumni Reception on Gibbes Green
The College’s Alumni Society hosted its annual Alumni Reception
on Gibbes Green on Friday, September 28, where President Sorensen,
Dean Bierbauer, Dr. Shirley Staples Carter, Dr. Samantha Hastings,
Dr. Pat Feehan and Cocky greeted a crowd of alumni and friends.
The College honored five Class of 1957 alumni as they were celebrating
their 50th reunion this year.

Pre-Game Barbeque
The College’s Alumni Society hosted a pre-game barbeque for
its alumni, friends, faculty and staff before the South Carolina
vs. Mississippi State football game on Saturday, September 29.
Alumni and friends gathered to enjoy barbeque, reconnect with former
classmates and share their Carolina memories before the 12:30 p.m.
kickoff.
