Celebrating
Information and Communication
As the college prepares for its annual I-Comm Week,
the eighth edition, on Oct. 3-6, we hope you’ll
mark your calendars and drop in to hear some of our
sessions. The presentations cover all the disciplines
of both our schools with an array of professionals,
alumni, faculty and students participating. You’ll
find a calendar of events here.

We love it when alumni
such as Lou Kennedy and Stephen Brown return to campus
to share their experiences in public relations, advertising
and the corporate executive suite. We’ll tackle
intellectual freedom, war and censorship, and the Pentagon’s
information strategies. And we’re staging a homecoming
for MSNBC anchor Craig Melvin, returning to Columbia
where his broadcast career was launched at WIS. Craig
is this year’s Buchheit lecturer.
I-Comm Week — it’s “I” for
information and “Comm” for communications — always
seems to arrive quickly and surprise us, even though
co-chairs Lisa Sisk and Dr. Kendra Albright have been
working for months to assemble the program. But it
also surprises us in other ways. Our students enjoy
learning from the professionals. Our alumni and visitors
love to see what we’re doing in the college.
And our guest presenters always are pleased to share
their time and expertise with us. Each year, we’re
surprised — and delighted — by their growing
enthusiam.
