Scholarship and research activities are vital dimensions of university
life. The Office of Research of the College of Mass Communications
and Information Studies works to support and encourage research
and related scholarly activities within and across the College.
This includes efforts within the School of Journalism and Mass
Communications, those within the School of Library and Information
Science, and those interdisciplinary initiatives that reach across
the two Schools, as well as beyond them into the broader scholarly
community.
The Director works closely with the leadership of the two Schools
and the College to find ways to assist faculty members, graduate
students and others to develop their individual and shared research
programs, to identify and nurture areas of cross-cutting thematic
strength, and to initiate activities designed to sustain and expand
on those programs and themes. These activities help assure that
the culture of the College continues to embrace its research mission
and to advance its research activities to new levels.
The Director also works with School, College and University leadership
to identify and make use of available resources that can encourage,
support and reward the research efforts of individuals within the
College. To this end, the Director participates in the development
of grant and contract proposals in which the College has the opportunity
to play a significant role, as well as assists individual investigators
with their own grant and contract initiatives.
Advice, guidance and assistance for developing both funded and
unfunded research and scholarship efforts within the College is
always available, within the capacity of the Office to provide
it. |
