The Student Advisory Council (SAC) is a focus group of students for CIEL who positively impact the learning environment at the University of South Carolina. Members provide student perspectives on CIEL initiatives and resources including, but not limited to, experiential learning, integrative learning, Graduation with Leadership Distinction (GLD), and the development of CIEL in relation to USC’s Quality Enhancement Plan.
SAC meets once per month during Fall and Spring semesters. Undergraduate students may apply here! Unfortunately, we are not yet able to accept graduate students on SAC. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis each semester. We accept students of all majors and years and ask that students commit to attending as many meetings as they are able.
Members develop and practice many skills as a part of their involvement in SAC:
- Communication skills, both written and verbal
- Knowledge of the university through discussions with diverse student body
- Critical questioning, analyzing, and thinking,
- Synthesizing and organizing ideas, information, or experiences into new interpretations
- Presenting ideas and concepts effectively and appropriately with others
- Active listening as a form of effective communication
