Center for Integrative and Experiential Learning

Log into the GLD Application System here.

Start your application as early as your freshman year and begin filling in the details of your experiences or wait until you’ve completed experiences to enter them into your application – it's up to you!

Application Deadlines

Application deadline extensions are not permitted.

  • Fall 2023: Friday, September 8, 2023
  • Spring 2024: Friday, January 26, 2024
  • Summer 2024: Monday, May 6, 2024

Students must submit their GLD application in the semester they complete their GLD ePortfolio. For example, if you want to write your ePortfolio in Spring 2024, your application would be due by Friday, January 26, 2024. It is likely that the presentation and ePortfolio requirements will not be fulfilled before the submission deadline, and that’s okay! CIEL only needs to know how you plan to complete the presentation and ePortfolio, which you will indicate within the application itself.

Verifying experiences listed in your application

Verification timeline

It is not required for your experiences to be verified before you submit your application. Verification only begins after the application deadline of each semester.

You will not get progress updates as verification happens. For updates, you may login to your GLD Application to review verification progress. CIEL will reach out to you after the application deadline if there are any issues verifying your GLD experiences.

CIEL CANNOT accept any of the following documentation for verification:

  • Offer letters for jobs, internships, practicum experiences, etc.
  • Tax documentation (such as W-2's)
  • Pay stubs
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Letters or approval from peers (undergraduate students), including presidents of student organizations or executive members of sorority or fraternity organizations.
    • A special note about Greek life executive members:
      • For ALL roles other than President positions, you must follow the instructions for verifying off-campus experiences below. Typically, students obtain verification from Chapter Advisors or “house parents or managers” and not national Greek-life leadership.

Core experience

Acceptable verification for off-campus experiences

Off-campus experiences must be verified with the GLD Verification Form. Do not use this form if you have an on-campus supervisor or mentor or if you have completed an off-experience through a course (such as an internship, practicum, service project, etc.).

  • Download the form above and fill it out with sufficient detail.
  • Have your supervisor or mentor sign it physically or digitally.
  • Save the form as a PDF. The GLD application system does not accept other file types.
  • If you have not submitted your application, attach the signed form to your application.
  • If you have already submitted your application, email the signed form to

Acceptable verification for on-campus experiences

  • The GLD application system will ask for the name and USC email of your identified supervisor. CIEL will verify the information directly with your supervisor to confirm the information you have provided is a correct and accurate representation of your experience.
  • The GLD application system will ask for the course you took and the semester and year you completed it. CIEL will verify your course information directly through your transcript.
  • You must have earned a B or better for your course-related experience to be approved.

Enhancement experiences

  • Enhancement activities are not independently verified. This means that you are not required to provide a letter, attendance record, certification, etc. You only need to provide an explanation in your application of how the experience impacted you or specifically why the experience was important to you in relation to your pathway.
  • Your enhancement experience does not have to be listed in the My USC Experience database.

  • You must have earned a B or better in the course you choose, regardless of whether you choose a course on the approved course list or propose a course.
    • Courses taken at institutions abroad typically transfer into USC as pass or fail grades instead of on a letter grade scale. Courses that are listed as pass or fail, whether taken abroad or at USC, are not accepted for the GLD course work requirement. However, you can still include abroad courses in your ePortfolio!
  • If you have proposed a course, you must provide sufficient rationale in your GLD application on how the chosen course relates to your pathway. In other words, how were you impacted by the chosen course and what did you learn that was important to you?

Presentation, publications, or nominated scholarships

  • Verification guidelines for this section can be found here.

  • ePortfolios are verified after the scores have been received by CIEL, which is dependent on the ePortfolio completion method you choose: UNIV401, Structured Advisement, or Independent.
  • Students are not required or responsible for communicating their ePortfolio scores to CIEL.
