Working In International Development
This is a highly professional and competitive field of work. It is difficult to break into and it demands great initiative and leadership to advance professionally. Peace Corps Prep requires three specific activities that will strengthen your candidacy.
- Have your resume critiqued by someone in the Career Center
- Attend a workshop or class on interview skills at the Career Center and/or utilize their tool, Big Interview
- Develop at least one significant leadership experience and be prepared to discuss it thoughtfully. Examples of a leadership experience include:
- Organizing a campus event, leading a work or volunteer project, or serving on the executive board of a student organization
- Completing UNIV 201: Experience It – Preparing for and Exploring the World of Work
- Completing UNIV 401: Graduation with Leadership Distinction (GLD)
- Completing any course in the Leadership Studies Minor
- Completing an internship
- Completing a co-op
- Completing an externship through Pathways to Professions
- Participating in the Realities & Rewards Program
- Serving as a University Ambassador
- Participating in USC Student Government
- Working or volunteering as a Resident Mentor
- Working or volunteering as a Peer Leader (e.g., Diversity Peer Educator, Campus Rec, UNIV 101, Supplemental Instruction Peer Leader, EcoRep)
- Working as a Teaching Fellow (including participation in Teaching Fellow Professional Development)
- Serving as a Service Saturday Site Leader
- Serving on a Leadership and Service Team
- Serving on the MLK Week of Service Planning Committee
- Serving as an Impact Weekly Site Leader
- Participating in the Emerging Leaders Program
- Attending or presenting at a Leadership and Diversity Conference
- Attending or presenting at the Explore: Career Conference
