During the Gamecock Gateway program, students take courses at Midlands Technical College. Academic Advisors work closely with students to ensure that courses will help the student matriculate to the University of South Carolina at the end of their time in Gateway.

Carolina Core

All students at the University of South Carolina share a common academic curriculum: the Carolina Core.

These first courses in the liberal arts and sciences support subsequent study in the program major and in beyond-the-classroom learning activities.

The Carolina Core develops competency in communication, analytical reasoning and problem-solving, scientific literacy, information literacy and the arts. Topics in global citizenship and multicultural understanding as well as values, ethics and social responsibility are explored.

A wide variety of Carolina Core courses are available with new options being added every year. Work closely with your advisor to choose Carolina Core courses that fit best with your major to ensure timely degree completion.

Credits from SC Technical Colleges

The University of South Carolina has made it very easy to see how coursework transfers from all SC Technical Colleges. Students can easily see how courses articulate for Carolina Core requirements and major specific requirements.
