The National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition presents the Outstanding Transfer Champion Award to professionals who are making a meaningful difference in the lives of transfer students through dedicated advocacy, innovative programming, and evidence-informed practice.

2026-27 Awards Campaign

Our 2026-27 awards campaign will kick off in late spring. Stay tuned for more information on how to nominate an exceptional colleague for the Excellence in Teaching First-Year Seminars award.

Overview

Recipients (up to three) demonstrate excellence in improving transfer student access, persistence, and success within or across institutions.

What Recipients Will Receive 

  • Complimentary registration to the new in-person, transfer-focused conference planned for summer 2027
  • Recognition at the in-person transfer-focused conference, including the presentation of a plaque at the event 
  • Recognition in a forthcoming issue of the Center's online publication, Insights for College Transitions, and on the Center’s web page, social media channels, and press releases

How We Select Recipients 

The selection committee will use an evaluation rubric to rate nominees’ efforts in three areas: advocacy, programmatic impact, and evidence-informed practice. The selection committee will include a panel composed of members of the Center’s Advisory Board, past award recipients, and other leaders in American higher education.

What Is Required of the Nomination Process 

  • Nomination Form and Supporting Letter 
  • One Additional Letter of Support 
  • Nominee’s Current Resume or CV 
  • Candidate Statement (not to exceed three pages) which addresses: 
  • How the nominee advocates for transfer students and collaborates with others to improve the transfer experience 
  • A transfer-related program, service, or initiative the nominee has created or improved, including its impact on students 
  • How the nominee uses data, research, or assessment to inform their work with transfer students
