Peer Consultant (PC)

PC's are trained undergraduate leaders who understand firsthand what it is like to be a student at the University of South Carolina. PCs meet 1-on-1 with students in Success Consultations to discuss academic strategies and co-create a plan to maximize the student’s potential for success. PCs also contribute to student outreach through the SSC call center and perform customer service related roles around the office.


To be considered, you must:

  • Be an undergraduate student at the University of South Carolina – Columbia
  • Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Have strong organizational and time management skills
  • Have strong customer service skills
  • Have effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Have a desire to help their fellow students


Job Responsibilities

  • Work a minimum of 8 hours per week
  • Hold 1-on-1, individualized appointments with students discussing positive academic strategies and skills
  • Facilitate student learning by modeling effective studying processes and strategies
  • Accurately report on all appointments through our EAB scheduling platform
  • Conduct outreach to students via our in house call platform
  • Provide exemplary customer service to students and guests at all 3 of our office locations
  • Model appropriate professional behaviors and attitudes
  • Check schedule 24 hours in advance for the appointments they have the following day
  • Be on time and prepared for all shifts
  • Obtain coverage for all shifts if unable to attend due to illness, etc. 
  • Maintain an accurate log of all hours worked through our time-keeping software
  • Maintain confidentiality on academic matters students disclose to them (grades, complaints, etc.)
  • Attend and participate in all required trainings & biweekly staff meetings 
  • New Peer Consultants are expected to participate in and complete the SSC Peer Leader Training Cohort during their first semester of employment
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Peer Consultants or the Graduate Assistant of Peer Consultants
