Peer Consultant (PC)

PC's are trained undergraduate peer leaders who understand firsthand what it is like to be a student at the University of South Carolina. PCs meet 1-on-1 with students in Success Consultations to discuss academic strategies and co-create a plan to maximize the student’s potential for success. PCs also contribute to student outreach through the SSC call center and perform customer service related tasks around the office.

Eligibility

To be considered, you must meet these minimum requirements:

  • Be an undergraduate student at the University of South Carolina – Columbia
  • Have completed one semester at the University of South Carolina - Columbia by your start date
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Have a desire to help your fellow students

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead 1-on-1 appointments (Success Consultations) with students to promote positive academic behaviors
  • Conduct outreach to specific populations of students and answer office hotline via Student Success Call Center
  • Assist with office operations by checking students in for appointments and answering student inquiries via phone, e-mail, and/or LiveChat
  • Maintain confidential student records
  • Attend and participate in all required trainings & biweekly staff meetings, including the SSC Peer Leader training cohort during the first semester of employment
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Peer Consultants or the Graduate Assistant of Peer Consultants

Breakdown of Hours

  • Work a minimum of 8 hours per week
  • 3 - 6 hours: Success Consultations
  • 3 - 6 hours: Combination of call center and front desk
  • 1 hour: cohort (first time peer leaders only)
  • 1 hour: biweekly staff meeting
