Strengthening Achievement and Nursing Diversity with URM/DB Program for South Carolina (StAND-UP: SC) is a pilot program that aims to enhance the diversity of the registered nurses (RN) workforce in South Carolina (SC). We want to increase the proportion of underrepresented, minoritized, and disadvantaged background (URM/DB) students graduating from nursing schools.
StAND-UP: SC will offer approximately 75 pre-licensed, senior RN nursing students a one-year virtual diversity, equity, and inclusion academy. With presentations, resources, and hands-on experiential learning experiences with local community health workers in the field, students will better understand social determinants of health, health equity, and social justice advocacy.
Moreover, StAND-UP: SC will provide life-long, tailored professional development resources. At the end of the academy, students and other stakeholders in SC will be invited to a conference to discuss lessons learned and the next steps.
Participants will attend monthly virtual trainings from August 2023 through May 2024.

Supports students of marginalized communities with advocacy services, awareness and comprehension of diversity issues, and assist the campus community and student organizations to expand their efforts to cultivate an inclusive community at the university.
