College of Nursing

A Practice of Leadership

Dr. Kate Jones is the Director of the MSN Nursing Administration and DNP Nurse Executive Leadership Programs and a Clinical Assistant Professor at the College of Nursing. After four years as a US Army Nurse, Dr. Jones transitioned into home healthcare where she spent the majority of her nursing career before moving into academia. While working in home healthcare, Dr. Jones discovered her passion for leadership both as an administrator and in developing new leaders who are confident and successful.

In her current position, Dr. Jones puts her experience as an administrator and her passion for leadership to work every day. Her current projects include but are not limited to directing the online MSN Nursing Administration Program where she is invested in ensuring beneficial student experiences, assisting with research projects on the science of caring, and working on the team preparing the college's application for NLN Center of Excellence designation.

For those interested in pursuing a path similar to the one Dr. Jones has taken, she offers the following advice, “Always be in pursuit of life-long learning, whether that learning comes in the form of new jobs, professional development, or in the classroom. Never stop.” She shared that every experience—those that seem both good and bad—will inform your life and future work. Draw on all of your experiences as you move forward and be open to every opportunity that comes your way.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
