UofSC welcomes NCAA Tournament to Colonial Life Arena

Parking, shuttle info for faculty, staff, students and visitors

The University of South Carolina is hosting the first and second rounds of the 2019 NCAA Tournament at Colonial Life Arena, March 22-24, welcoming thousands of visitors to campus and the city of Columbia for the event.

The city, the COMET bus service and the university have created a transportation plan for the week for visitors and regular commuters.

Students

For university students, the congestion around the arena will be the most notable difference. Parking for students will not be affected during Thursday and Friday classes.

Faculty/Staff

South Carolina faculty and staff will see some shifts of their available parking Wednesday (March 20), Thursday and Friday. FS10, the lot behind Colonial Life Arena, will be closed to employees on those three days. FS11, the lot between the arena and the former Discovery Garage, will be shut down to university employees on Thursday and Friday. Temporary alternate parking will be available to faculty and staff starting Thursday on the southwest corner of Assembly and Pendleton streets, across Pendleton from the Empire apartment complex. This will function as an all-staff lot for Thursday and Friday. University vehicles will have access to the motor pool and the Greene Street loading docks during the entire week.

Tournament attendees

The city, COMET and the university have set up courtesy shuttles and remote parking for practice day on Thursday (March 21), which fans may attend for free. Buses will run from Gamecock Park on one route and from 405 Gervais St. (at Gervais and Huger streets) on the other. There also will be shuttles running from hotels around the Main Street district as well as the Inn at USC. All shuttles will drop off one block from the arena. Event parking lots around the arena will be open starting with Friday’s evening session.

Full details and maps can be found on the city’s event site.
