New options for sharing preferred names, personal pronouns

All students, faculty and staff can update preferred personal data

As part of the university’s ongoing efforts to promote a more inclusive campus environment, University of South Carolina students, faculty and staff can now add preferred names and personal pronouns to their information. Individuals can do so by logging into myaccount.sc.edu.

Students and employees can select their personal pronouns from a drop-down menu. Options include she/her/hers; he/him/his; they/them/theirs; and others. Students, faculty and staff will also be able to change their email alias to include parts of their preferred first or last name.

Students' preferred names and personal pronouns will only appear in Office 365 applications, portions of the university student employee directory and the email alias system. However, this information will be available later in Blackboard, Banner and PeopleSoft.

Only individuals who want their preferred names and pronouns available to all students and employees should enter this information. Otherwise, these fields should be left blank.
