Campus Conversation: Victoria Hill

"In high school I did my senior project on honey bees and beekeeping. I was disappointed when I got to UofSC, and we didn’t have a beekeeping club. Then, last year, a friend of mine, Maddison Mizzell, reached out and said she was in the process of founding the Carolina Beekeeping Club, so I joined immediately. My favorite part about the club has been getting involved with the beekeeping community. We are members of the local chapter of the SC Beekeeping Association, and we’ve met so many beekeepers who have served as mentors to our club. They have been so eager to teach us all they can about beekeeping. They have even donated two hives to our club. Being president of the Carolina Beekeeping Club has actually been one of my first leadership positions, and it’s been amazing. It’s been a huge learning process, but I’m so excited for all the new things we have going on this year. It has also been a huge help that all our members are so wonderful. I am so proud to lead an organization full of such talented and motivated individuals who share a love of honeybees. This club is so important to me, and I’m honored to help continue growing our organization. I think the best part about the Carolina Beekeeping Club is that we can give students the opportunity to get involved in a hobby that otherwise may not be feasible for a college student. For anyone who might be interested, you can fill out a membership form on our Garnet Gate page, and come to our first meeting on Wednesday, September 4th at 7 p.m. in the Green Quad Learning Center. Also follow us on Instagram @carolinabeekeeping to stay updated on all our events (and, to see cute pictures of bees)!"
