Campus Conversation: Christen Piccioni

“I first tried yoga when I was 17 at my town’s local gym and was looking to do some deep stretching since I was track and cross country runner. My muscles were so sore the next day, and I was shocked at how hard of a workout yoga could be. I’ve been hooked ever since. After spending years running competitively and overexerting my body, my yoga practice has been able to rebuild my love for exercise through movements that respect and listen to what my body needs each time I step on my mat. From my practice, I’ve learned a great deal about resiliency and knowing that while today might not be my day, tomorrow might be and I will keep moving forward and growing. Most importantly to me, I’ve learned to use my breath to ground myself through tough times where I feel upset and anxious. Yoga has become an integral part of both my physical and mental health. My mat has become a space where I feel comfortable and at peace and everyone, no matter your age, race, gender, body type, etc. is welcome and accepted in this practice."
