Campus Conversation: James Collins

"I am an intramural sports leader. I have been working for intramurals since my freshmen year, so in total three years. My job has changed a significant amount because of COVID-19. As you know, in the fall we normally offer several of our biggest sports including 7 v 7 football. But due to university guidelines and social distancing restrictions, we were unable to offer a lot of our main sports this fall. So now we have a lot of new and exciting events and tournaments coming this fall. We will be offering things like an individual football combine, some golf tournaments and many more exciting opportunities to keep students engaged and active this fall.

There are many things that I love about working as a student employee within Campus Rec. One thing is the family atmosphere with all of the employees. From the professional staff to the student employees, everyone that I have worked with in Campus Rec is super friendly, accepting and very caring. I know for sure walking away in the spring that I have made some lifelong relationships. Another thing I love about working with Campus Rec is the students. Without the amazing students that come in and out of the door, Campus Rec would not be what it is today. The students bring an energy into the building that can't be felt anywhere else. Lastly, working as a student employee for Campus Rec I have grown so much professionally. I have learned many skills and traits that I will carry on with me into my future career.

Whether it be working in intramurals, operations or becoming a Group X instructor, working within Campus Recreation is definitely an amazing job opportunity that will allow you to develop and grow as a person and as a professional."
