“I’m currently in my 18-month clinical externship through the Medical University of South Carolina at Claude W. Smith M.D. School of Cardiovascular Technology. I finished the didactic portion of my externship last semester, and now I’ve been rotating throughout hospitals and doctors’ offices in Columbia learning how to perform people’s echocardiograms and vascular studies. This job will allow me to work as a cardiovascular sonographer, which I plan to do for one to two years before pursuing medical school.
“I like that this job gave me a direct career path but also kept the door open for further schooling. My favorite aspect of this program has been the clinical portion of my externship. I love interacting with the patients and with others in my career field. Working within hospitals and doctors’ offices has really made me acknowledge that working in the medical field is the right career path for me!”
