Four nursing programs at the University of South Carolina rank in the Top 10 nationally in the latest online rankings from U.S. News & World Report.

For the sixth consecutive year, the University of South Carolina College of Nursing ranks among the Top 5 in the country for its online master’s in nursing program, according to U.S. News & World Report’s annual program rankings released Jan. 27. The program is ranked No. 2.

The College of Nursing jumped four spots to No. 3 for its online program in nursing education. The college also earned high marks in two additional categories:

  • No. 4 for nursing practitioners in psychiatric mental health across the lifespan.
  • No. 7 for online family nurse practitioner master’s programs

“These latest rankings reflect the exceptional quality of our online master’s in nursing programs and the dedication of our faculty, staff and students,” said Jeannette Andrews, dean of the College of Nursing. “Together, they prepare nurses for advanced practice, leadership and education roles that strengthen communities and address today’s evolving health care workforce needs. We are proud to be recognized among the nation’s very best once again.”

Online graduate programs are important in nursing and other fields because they offer flexibility to working professionals and nontraditional students. USC’s longstanding success in online nursing programs demonstrates excellence not only in health science, but also in offering flexible degree pathways.

“At the University of South Carolina, we are committed to helping to address our state’s nursing shortage — and delivering a world-class education for working nurses in our state demonstrates that commitment,” said Provost Mary Anne Fitzpatrick. “We are proud to deliver nationally ranked online courses for nurses who are seeking advanced degrees.”

In addition to the success at the College of Nursing, other notable rankings include:

  • No. 25 for the online master’s in information technology at the Molinaroli College of Engineering and Computing.
  • No. 25 for the online master’s in education program, up from No. 27 last year.
