Covid-19 and Spring 2020 GLD Presentations


Independent and Structured Advising GLD Students ONLY

As you know, Discover USC 2020 has been canceled. You are still responsible for meeting the presentation requirement for GLD through another method. Not to worry! Please see below for options and instructions.

On Campus, in Person Presentation

    1. Thursday, April 16th OR Friday, April 17th
    2. Sign up for a 15-minute time slot between 9:00am and 5:00pm. Sign up for a time slot here by clicking this link!
    3. Location: Legare College on the Horseshoe, 3rd floor conference room - Room 322
    4. What to do:
      1. Create a poster via PowerPoint based on the abstract you submitted for Discover USC.
        YOU WILL NOT NEED TO PRINT A POSTER.
      2. Save the poster as a PDF.
      3. Submit the PDF file to the Graduation-Leadership-Distinction (Spring 2020) Blackboard organization. See detailed instructions in the Blackboard home page (to be made available soon).
        1. NOTE: You must submit the PDF file prior to your presentation time slot.
    5. During your presentation time slot, you will be expected to speak for 10 minutes on your experience and reflection. You will be asked questions for the remaining 5 minutes.
      1. Sample questions can be found in the Presentation Expectations document
    6. Following your time slot, your poster and presentation will be verified by CIEL staff. We will notify you after this has been completed.

Live, Remote Presentation

    1. Thursday, April 16th OR Friday, April 17th
    2. Sign up for a 15-minute time slot between 9:00am and 5:00pm. Sign up for a time slot here by clicking this link!
    3. You will present via Skype or Blackboard Collaborate. You MUST include your username/contact information, or we will assume you’re coming in person.
    4. What to do: 
      1. NOTE: You must submit the PDF file prior to your presentation time slot.
      2. Create a poster via PowerPoint based on the abstract you submitted for Discover USC.
        YOU WILL NOT NEED TO PRINT A POSTER.
      3. Save the poster as a PDF.
      4. Submit the PDF file to the Graduation-Leadership-Distinction (Spring 2020) Blackboard organization. See detailed instructions in the Blackboard home page (to be made available soon).
    5. At the time of your presentation, we will contact you at the provided contact information.
    6. During your presentation time, you will be expected to speak for 10 minutes on your experience and reflection. You will be asked questions for the remaining 5 minutes.

Pre-recorded Presentation

    1. Due by Friday, April 17th at 5:00pm
    2. What to do:
      1. Create a poster via PowerPoint based on the abstract you submitted for Discover USC.
        YOU WILL NOT NEED TO PRINT A POSTER.
      2. Use PowerPoint to record your presentation.
        1. Here are a couple resources regarding how you can create and record your presentation with audio in PowerPoint:
          1. Microsoft Office guide on creating and recording PowerPoint narrated slides
          2. YouTube video of how to create a narrated PowerPoint
      3. Your audio recording must be 10-15 minutes in length and articulate your experience and reflection. You must answer at least 3 of the questions below.
        1. How has what you learned changed your understanding of yourself, others, your studies, your future career aspirations, or your decisions for the future?
        2. What new questions did this experience raise for you that you might investigate in the future?
        3. What would you do differently the next time you have a similar opportunity?
        4. What would you recommend future students focus on if they pursue a similar experience?
        5. How could they engage or take advantage of resources in a way that would enhance their experience?
        6. What guiding principles did this experience help you develop that you might apply to whatever you decide to do?
        7. What do you want to do next, what do you want to learn more about, and/or how has this influenced how you will interact with others?
      4. Submit the PowerPoint file to the Graduation-Leadership-Distinction (Spring 2020) Blackboard organization. See detailed instructions in the Blackboard home page (to be made available soon).
    3. Following your submission, your presentation will be verified by CIEL staff. We will notify you after this has been completed.
