Study Abroad Wins National Marketing Award

COLUMBIA, S.C., (June 11, 2015) — Staff from the Education Abroad Office at the University of South Carolina recently returned from the NAFSA: Association of International Educators conference in Boston, Massachusetts where they won a national award as well as conducted and attended workshops held to enhance the field of international education.

The Education Abroad Office received the Innovation in Marketing & Digital Media Award from GoAbroad.com, recognizing their success with “See the World!”, its U101 campus partner presentation. “See the World!” is a 50-70 minute presentation led by Education Abroad Office undergraduate and graduate students that introduces student attendees to the concept of studying abroad, and gives them resources to begin finding the program that is right for their academic career.  The GoAbroad Innovations Academy, a panel of leaders in the field, voted to determine the winner out of five finalists. The Education Abroad Office was the only university program nominated; others were all independent program providers.

This is the third GoAbroad Innovation Award that the Education Abroad Office at USC has won since the awards were introduced in 2011. It won the 2014 Innovation in Access & Equity Award for the Beyond Boundaries Initiative and the 2013 Innovative New Program Award for the International Perspectives on Higher Education Faculty-Staff Study Abroad Program. The Education Abroad Office has also been a finalist in at least one category every year.

The purpose of the annual GoAbroad Innovation awards is to acknowledge institutions, organizations and individuals who are creating initiatives to advance the field of international education.

Three staff members from the Education Abroad Office also conducted two presentations while attending the conference: “Financial Aid for Education Abroad: Administration and Partnership Building” and “Higher Education & Student Affairs (HESA) Graduate Student International Internships.”
