Board of Publications and Communications

The university’s Board of Student Publications and Communications is the official governing body of Garnet Media Group’s four partner organizations and also serves as the group’s publisher. The Board of Publications derives its authority from the university’s Board of Trustees, though it is bound in its decision-making by the Board of Publications’ Statement of Principles and the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States, both of which protect public university students’ right to free speech and freedom of the press. The Board of Publications is responsible for performing publishers’ duties for all four partner organizations, selecting executive student leaders for each partner organization, approving annual budgets, and taking disciplinary action related to violations of the Statement of Principles.
