Student Affairs and Academic Support

Kara Law named director of finance

Kara Law has been named director of finance for the Division of Student Affairs and Academic Support at the University of South Carolina. Law will provide guidance, monitoring and analysis in budgeting and finance for the departments comprising Student Affairs and Academic Support. She will be responsible for $100 million in budgets for more than 30 departments and five responsibility units for the division.

Law, who will begin her role April 16, succeeds Michelle Bridge, who retired in March.

Law has served as a tuition and budget analyst in the University Budget Office since 2016. She has provided budget oversight and training for a variety of UofSC administrative units, including Student Affairs and Academic Support, and specialized in fee management and revenue projections for the university. She also is chair of the Tuition Refund Appeal Committee and a member of the Service Unit Allocation Committee.

Before joining UofSC, Law worked for an industry-leading distribution company with progressively greater responsibility in roles including project management, general ledger accounting, accounts receivable and treasury management.

Law earned her bachelor’s in public relations and her MBA with a concentration in finance from South Carolina. This fall, she will begin work toward her doctorate in educational leadership and policies, also at UofSC.
