Student Affairs and Academic Support welcomes new campus recreation director

Jim Walczyk recently joined the Division of Student Affairs and Academic Support as campus recreation director.

In this role he leads the planning, development and implementation of a range of recreational programs, activities and facilities to promote the overall health and well-being of the Gamecock community.   

"We are excited to welcome Jim to our USC family," said Mari Ross-Alexander, associate vice president for Student Health and Well-Being. “His extensive knowledge and expertise make him a perfect fit to lead our campus recreation department.”

Jim Walczyk leads the planning, development and implementation of Campus Recreation's programs and activities.

With over three decades of campus recreation experience, Walcyzk is dedicated to fostering a holistic experience that will enhance USC’s existing recreational offerings through education, innovation and social connections. 

He most recently served as director of university recreation at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he was responsible for the leadership and assessment of a multi-faceted campus recreation department. He previously served in similar leadership roles as the director of student recreation and wellness services at the University of Akron and as assistant director of recreational sports for the University of Tennessee.

Walczyk earned his master’s in administration of recreation, leisure and tourism, and a bachelor’s in sports management from Old Dominion University and is certificated by the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association as a sports specialist.
