Faculty Recognized for Completion of "Getting Ready to Teach Online" Program

Eleven faculty members celebrated the completion of the fall 2015 session of "Getting Started Teaching Online at USC." co-sponsored by the Center for Teaching and the Office of the Provost, the short course that focused on the best practices in online teaching.

The Office of the Provost offers suggestion for how faculty can creatively and flexibly deliver content and assess performance as they make up for class time lost due to weather conditions.

Announcing Winner of Digital Humanities Course Development Stipends for 2015-2016

Lydia Brandt, Assistant Professor of Art History, and Mark Garrett Cooper, Professor in the Film and Media Studies Program, are the inaugural recipients of the 2015-2016 Digital Humanities Course Development Stipends. Co-sponsored by the Center for Digital Humanities and the Center for Teaching Excellence, this award supports faculty members who wish to enhance an existing humanities course by incorporating innovative digital tools or projects.

Creating Pharmacy Leaders

Professor Brianne Dunn with Professor Patricia Fabel designed a new course called "Creating Pharmacy Leaders." From learning how to work through problems with a team to interviewing current leaders in the field, this course forces students to be actively engaged in what they're learning.

Cocky, Pedals, Literacy! Promoting Literacy through Integrative Learning

By seeking new ways to create learning experiences for students outside of the classroom, Elise Lewis, Assistant Professor of Mass Communications and Information Studies, has created a meaningful service learning opportunity that also generated a way to help adults and children in the community to learn about bicycle skills and safety. "Cocky, Pedals, Literacy! Promoting Literacy through Integrative Learning" combines the enrolled undergraduate students, Cocky's Reading Express(TM), and a local public library.

CTE Shares Quality Assurance Knowledge at Distance Learning Conference

Quality distributed learning (DL) in higher education is possible. Embracing that mission, USC has adopted the Quality Matters' Higher Education Rubric. Initiated by the Provost and led by a faculty committee, the university launched the Provost's Distributed Learning Quality Review, a university-wide effort to ensure the quality of its DL courses.
