Shuying Chen

Shuying Chen is a Ph.D. candidate in Comparative Literature at the University of South Carolina. Her research interests include transcultural theater, adaptation studies, and performance studies. Her current work focuses on the Chinese reception and production of Eugene O'Neill in the twentieth century. Her dissertation is titled “Eugene O’Neill Returns: Theatrical Modernization and O’Neill Adaptations in 1980s China”. In recent years, she has taught courses in Chinese language and comparative literature in the LLC department. Before coming to USC, Shuying received her MA in Studies in Literature from the University of Texas at Dallas.
