Notes:

**GHS US Hist**This class explores history and society in the Americas with a focus on the Latino population. The world of sports and the lives and experiences of athletes intersect with, mirror, and/or challenge broader political and societal questions. This course provides an introduction to the field of history in general, and to sports history in particular. We will pay close attention to not only how sports reflects wider social developments, but also how it can shape debates about inclusion and exclusion, equity, and geopolitics. We will study sports as an event as well as a ritual from which athletes use their visibility to deliver messages that transcend their individual performance or challenge existing norms. Following a broad discussion of themes and methodology in the first two-thirds of the term, students will work towards a review essay during the latter part of the semester. This process will immerse students in the research activities of historians.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
