Bio
Background: | I have served as a Key Clinical Faculty and Subspecialty Education Coordinator for the IM residency, Associate Program Director for 4 years, Program Director for 10 years, and Vice Chair of Academics for 10 years. I am currently the Director of Faculty Development for the DOM, assisting with GME expansion with new residency and fellowship programs. I am also the current Program Director for the Pulmonary/Critical Care Fellowship Program. I would also highlight that I earned a Masters in Medical Education – Curriculum and Instruction with a thesis entitled “Improving Attitudes and Behaviors Towards Internal Medicine Grand Rounds by Incorporating the Theory of Planned Behavior.” Moreover, I have been involved in a number of curriculum development processes including a Total Health curriculum, Quality and Safety curriculum, Art of Asking Questions to Improve Learning curriculum. I am also developing a variety of rotation curricula for the Pulmonary/Critical Care fellowship. I previously directed faculty development for the Prisma Health system prior to the medical school start. I continue to provide 40-50 local teaching presentations to fellows, residents and students each year. I have received awards for outstanding teaching faculty as well as the BEACON Chairman’s Award for Faculty Excellence. I have several abstracts, publications, and presentations listed in my CV. I would like to highlight that I have organized and chaired the Health Sciences Center Research Showcase that most recently has displayed about 70 projects from throughout the system annually. Moreover, for a number of years, I taught the pulmonary review section for the national MedStudy board review course twice a year. I also was the Pulmonary Section Editor for the MedStudy board review books. I continue to provide several national presentations and workshops, have continued scholarship in peer-reviewed sources, have written book chapters in clinical and the history of medicine areas, and mentor fellows, residents and students with their research projects. Finally, I have served on several medical school committees including Admissions, Appointment and Promotions, Program Evaluation, Faculty Representation, and have chaired the Faculty Development Committee. I have also served on Academic Council, serving as Chair of the Quality and Safety subcommittee, and the Scientific Advisory Council. I have also served on numerous committees involved in the planning and start of the USCSOMG. With regard to hospital service, I have served on MSPIC, chaired the Utilization Management Committee. I was also the Chief Medical Officer for the LTACH. I have also chaired and organized the annual alumni meeting for the DOM residency program including the Lloyd Hayes Symposium and service as Chairman of the Board for the non-profit philanthropy fund for the alumni association. I have served on the SC State Respiratory Therapy Board. Finally, I was honored to become a Fellow in the American College of Physicians by direct invited election, an honor conferred upon a few physicians each year based upon status as an academician or researcher with a national reputation, extensive publications, and an outstanding career. |
