Bio
| Background: | My name is Steve P. Saunders MBBS, FACP. I am board certified in Internal Medicine. I have been working as an IM-Hospitalist with GHS since 2002. My medical education began in 1986 at the University of The West Indies , Jamaica. After graduating in 1991, I worked at Princess Margaret Hospital , Nassau, Bahamas where my last position was Senior House Officer in the Department of Emergency Medicine. In 1995 I began the IM Residency Program at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. Upon completion I moved to Greenville , SC , where I practiced Primary Care Medicine for three years before joining GHS. I was born on the small island of Tobago(Republic of Trinidad and Tobago), and had the opportunity to live and work in various socioeconomic environments. These experiences have confirmed to me the importance of excellence in the practice of medicine, respect for all, service to others and advocacy. I therefore felt it important to be active on hospital committees that work toward improving patient care, safety and process improvement. This also influenced my serving on theCouncil of the SC Chapter of the ACP and to have membership in the ACP, AMA, SCMA. In the community , I am a board member of the mentoring organization, TMALDI. I am also a member of the Levi S. Kirkland Society. I am married with four children(age 15-25 y.o). They are an integral part of my ability to maintain a healthy work-life balance and I treasure the time I spend with them. I also enjoy reading financial and geopolitical literature , landscaping around my home and preparing the occasional Caribbean style meal for the family. Ultimately, I hope that I can continue to share my knowledge and experiences with my colleagues but more importantly the young physicians whose paths I may cross. |
