Bio
Background: | Dr. Chosed earned her B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX. She then earned a Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX where she worked in the lab of Dr. Kim Orth studying the structure and enzymology of bacterial effector proteins, specifically those involved in the addition and removal of posttranslational modifications. Then she joined the lab of Dr. Sharon Dent at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX where she was an Odyssey Postdoctoral fellow and continued to work on the regulation of posttranslational modifications. She investigated the regulation of the yeast multi-subunit COMPASS complex that is the yeast homologue of the mixed-lineage leukemia complex in humans. Dr. Chosed then taught as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Trinity University for two years before moving to Furman University as an Assistant Professor teaching Genetics, Biochemistry, Cancer Biology and Bioinformatics since 2011. Her lab at Furman continued her work utilizing a yeast model for mixed-lineage leukemia as well as Parkinson’s disease. In her spare time she enjoys running, baking and spending time outdoors with her 7-year old son and husband. |
Teaching Interest(s): | One of the most fulfilling aspects of my career is that I have an opportunity to inspire the next generation of scientists and physicians. As a teacher, it’s my responsibility to encourage these students to ask questions, pursue answers and generate solutions. To achieve these teaching goals I strive to teach courses that challenge my students to think beyond the material covered in textbooks and develop assignments requiring students to critically analyze the material covered in class and apply it to situations unfamiliar to them. Through my teaching, I hope to instill a passion in my student through my own enthusiasm and fascination for science and medicine. I teach and co-direct the Molecular and Cellular Foundations Module as well as additional biochemistry lectures throughout the M1 and M2 years. |
Research Interest(s): | My research program is focused on the molecular mechanisms that regulate development in preimplantation stage embryos. This research aims to enhance the uterine implantation success rate of euploid embryos of infertile couples undergoing IVF. I am also the Director of Medical Student Research at UofSC SOMG. |
