Dr. William Wright Named New Associate Dean for Program Assessment and Accreditation

USC School of Medicine Greenville is proud to announce the selection of Dr. William Wright as Associate Dean for Program Assessment and Accreditation — a newly-created position at SOMG.

In this key role, Dr. Wright will oversee all aspects of program assessment and evaluation and continuous quality improvement (CQI). He will lead the accreditation process for SOMG, including the re-accreditation cycle in academic year 2028-2029.

Dr. Wright, an associate professor who specializes in cardiovascular physiology, joined the School of Medicine Greenville in July 2011 and was a founding faculty member when the medical school prepared to open to its inaugural class of students in 2012.

With a wealth of experience in program assessment, continuous quality improvement, and accreditation, Dr. Wright will provide pivotal leadership in not only the evaluation and monitoring of our existing programs but also in strengthening our path forward with high-quality and data-driven results.

In addition to publishing in vascular dysfunction in diabetes, Wright has published research related to medical education and assessment, including publications on Student Performance on Course Objectives in a Medical School Foundational Science Course, Emergency Medical Technician Training in Medical School, and on Preparation for Required National Board Exams and Clerkship Rotations.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Wright as the newest member of our executive leadership team,” said Dr. Phyllis MacGilvray, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at SOMG. “With a wealth of experience in program assessment, continuous quality improvement, and accreditation, Dr. Wright will provide pivotal leadership in not only the evaluation and monitoring of our existing programs but also in strengthening our path forward with high-quality and data-driven results.”

Dr. Wright will lead the school’s new office of Institutional Data, Evaluation, Accreditation, and Strategic Planning (IDEAS).

Wright begins in his role as Associate Dean for Program Assessment and Accreditation on March 15. Dr. Wright also continues to hold his position of Clinical Associate Professor in the Biomedical Sciences Department at USC School of Medicine Greenville.
