Registration now open for the 2027 MLK Commemorative Breakfast

The University of South Carolina will bring campus and community members together to honor the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at its annual MLK Commemorative Breakfast on Jan. 15, 2027.
The event will be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m. in the Russell House Ballroom, 1400 Greene St. It is free and open to the public, with music, a keynote address and presentation of the university’s MLK Social Justice Awards recognizing those whose work has strengthened the community.
This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Bobby J. Donaldson, professor of history and executive director of USC’s Center for Civil Rights History and Research. His scholarship examines Southern history and African American life and culture. Donaldson also leads Columbia SC 63, an initiative that documents and shares the history of civil rights and social justice activism in Columbia and across South Carolina.
The breakfast offers a moment to reflect on King’s call to build a beloved community and to consider how that vision continues to guide the work ahead.
Advance registration is required, and space is limited. Register by Jan. 4, 2027 through the Office of Access and Opportunity. Free parking will be available in the Bull Street Garage; enter through Gate 3, the visitor entrance.
