Second semester survival guide

Now that you’re back, it’s time to throw yourself into the new semester. To get started on the right foot, here’s a roundup of events and tips for Spring 2024.

Study smart

The Gamecock School Supply closet is available to all undergraduate students. Bring your Carolina Card and get everything you need to start the semester.

To get ahead of the curve, schedule an appointment or drop by the Student Success Center. Tutoring services begin Jan. 16 for a variety of subjects.

If you are searching for a study buddy, look no further than accountability groups. Peer consultants will facilitate 90-minute meetings each week. Apply before Jan. 28 to improve study habits, connect with peers and get work done.

Have you ordered your textbooks? The USC Bookstore offers price match on in-store and web purchases for new and used books and used rentals with Amazon, bn.com and local competitors. Textbooks must be the same edition/format and be in stock and shipped by Amazon or bn.com. Third party vendors are not eligible for price match.

Get involved

It is never too late to get involved on campus. Find your interests at the Student Org Fair on Jan. 25. Some student organizations recruit in the spring semester. Check out Garnet Gate to learn about all the student organizations on campus.

If you are a transfer student, check out the welcome event on Jan. 17.

School spirit

Proudly wear your garnet and black this semester at a Gamecock athletic event. Men’s and women’s basketball is in full swing with conference play at Colonial Life Arena. Women play next on Jan. 15, and men play on Jan. 16. A full schedule of athletic events can be found on gamecocksonline.com.

Fitness

A new year is a great time to try something new. Group X passes are on sale for $30, which will allow for unlimited fitness classes to be taken until the last day of classes in April. Passes and class signups can be found on IMLeagues

Looking ahead

Carolina Ring events kick off this week with an event on Jan. 16. Buy your ring from Jan. 17-19 and Jan. 22-26 in Russell House. Students with 60 credit hours or more are invited to be a part of this longstanding tradition. Representatives from Jostens will be on campus to answer questions about ring sizes and the ordering process. To be able to participate in the Spring Ring Ceremony, class rings need to be ordered by Jan. 26.
