In this role, Todd will lead efforts related to global partnerships, international research collaborations, student and scholar mobility, and the development of international programs and initiatives. His leadership has included management of hundreds of international agreements spanning multiple continents, expansion of study abroad and exchange opportunities in more than 60 countries, and oversight of immigration and support services for international students, faculty and scholars.

“Sam is a collaborative leader whose commitment to global engagement has strengthened the University of South Carolina’s international presence and partnerships,” Provost Mary Anne Fitzpatrick, executive vice president for academic affairs. “He has already made a significant impact on our global engagement, and I am confident his leadership will continue to strengthen opportunities for international collaboration and student success.”

Prior to his current role in which he serves as USC’s Senior International Officer, Todd served as associate dean in the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management, where he directed international engagement efforts across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas. He also oversaw faculty affairs, college operations and research activities, helping advance the college’s academic and global priorities.

Alongside his administrative responsibilities, Todd serves as professor in the David and Nicole Tepper Department of Sport and Entertainment Management and is recognized for a research program centered on organizational behavior and the management of human resources. His research focuses on employee motivation and workplace attitudes, job seeker behavior, as well as the role of individuals driving organizational success within professional sports organizations and leagues.

“It is an honor to have been selected as associate vice president and vice provost for global affairs,” Todd said. “Over the past two years, our university has built extraordinary momentum across all areas of global engagement — from expanding international partnerships and navigating the unique needs of international faculty, students and scholars to creating new opportunities for global learning, research and cooperation. As South Carolina’s flagship university, USC is uniquely positioned to extend its international reach and strengthen its global impact. I look forward to building on this strong foundation and working with colleagues and stakeholders to further elevate USC’s presence and reputation around the world.”
