Membership

SIPA offers membership to broadcast, literary magazine, newsprint, online and yearbook programs in middle and high schools. SIPA members can participate in evaluative services and competitions as well as receive information on upcoming events.

Membership Information

Membership and critique fees:

  • $30 — publication or associate membership
  • $70 — critique of your program (broadcast, magazine, newsprint, online or yearbook)
  • $500 — lifetime membership - Advantages of Lifetime Memberships: (1) they stay with advisers who change schools; (2) all programs advised by a lifetime member have free memberships; (3) all Lifetime Memberships fees go directly to the SIPA Endowment.

SIPA offers evaluative services for all programs. Programs receive ratings of Merit, Excellent, Superior or All-Southern. 

Membership Categories

Program Membership ($30):

  • Can receive a program critique for only $70 and can participate in the SIPA's Best Writing Contest ($5 per entry or $50 for 11 entries) and SIPA's Best Visual Contest ($5 per entry).
  • Can apply for Endowment technology grants ($500).
  • Have access to the adviser listserv to communicate with other publication advisers.
  • Receive mailings from the SIPA office about upcoming events, scholarship and award opportunities and journalism information.

Lifetime Membership ($500):

  • Your Lifetime Membership follows you wherever you go, even if you change schools. (You still pay critique and contest fees.)
  • You only need one Lifetime Membership to cover ALL the programs you advise.
  • Lifetime Members need only pay for critique and contest fees every year.
  • Lifetime Memberships are an instant contribution to the SIPA Endowment Fund, which provides scholarships and fellowships to SIPA members every year.
  • Lifetime members will have access to the adviser listserv to communicate with other publication advisers.
  • Lifetime members receive mailings from the SIPA office about upcoming events, scholarship and award opportunities and journalism information.

Associate Membership ($30):

  • This membership is for individuals who do not advise publications but who are active in scholastic journalism activities.
  • Associate members will have access to the adviser listserv to communicate with other publication advisers.
  • Associate members receive mailings from the SIPA office about upcoming events, scholarship and award opportunities and journalism information.
