Is Custom Trips Right For You?

  • Does your team need to break from the normal routine?
  • Do you want to lead discussions in a unique field setting but need help getting there?
  • Do you want your group to accomplish something challenging together?
  • Are you forming a new group?
  • Do you want something better than an icebreaker?
  • Do you need recreational equipment support for field work or a field trip?
  • Does planning an outdoor overnight trip for your group seem too daunting?

Great News! If you answered "yes" to any of the these, custom trips are likely a great option for you.

Below are some examples of common trips we've run with associated base costs (assuming transportation is provided). Keep in mind, we are happy to discuss other locations/activities based on your personal interests.

Base cost: $825

Come explore Columbia’s local gem- the beautiful Congaree River. With the help of a stand-up paddle board, we'll paddle effortlessly down the Congaree and sink into the flow and rhythm of its gentle current. You'll learn how to navigate around rocks and pull off to swim in pools formed naturally by the river. This trip is a great beginner trip for those who do not have much experience on the water but still want to get out and explore what Columbia has to offer.

Base cost: $825

There’s no need to travel to get a taste of whitewater! We’ll put in on the Saluda River near the Riverbanks Zoo and work our way down practicing river running techniques like reading water, eddy turns, and ferrying all while enjoying the wildlife, splashes, and sunshine. These skills will help you “unlock” Columbia’s Rivers and a new fondness for paddling.

Base cost: $600

Did you know that Congaree is a floodplain forest, not a swamp? Discover more of what South Carolina’s only National Park holds in store with ORec. Take the road less traveled and escape the boardwalk to explore the low-lying area covered by water for part of each year while admiring one of the highest temperate deciduous forest canopies in the world. There’s no better way to get away from the city without having to venture far from home!

To initiate a custom trip, please submit a intake form. Submissions are due the semester prior to your desired trip date.

  • Same-semester requests can be accommodated (as staffing and availability allows), however at this time they are considered "late" (incurring an extra fee). Same-semester submissions must be made no less than one month prior to your desired trip date.

We look forward to working with your group to create an unforgettable outdoor experience.

The nature of outdoor recreation provides countless opportunities for growth. With the potential to improve communication, develop relationships, and overcome obstacles via problem-solving. Adventure trips are an ideal way to workshop both technical and soft skills.

This addition helps groups take a second to discuss/ponder how their experiences translate to their lives, organizations, relationships, etc.

Facilitation is not one-size-fits-all. Challenge your tight-knit group with additional facilitation activities that explore vulnerability. Is your group unfamiliar with one another? Implement one of our activities to build community and help people appreciate this time together.

NOTE: The trip is the primary experience/teambuilder/teacher. Activities are limited to one or two per trip and are not to be confused with an in-depth, activities-based, team-building program.
