Faculty and Staff Resources

University faculty and staff can take advantage of many services and programs offered by Student Health Services at the Center for Health and Well-Being through the State Health Plan and our Gamecocks LiveWell program.

For You, Your Department and Your Students

The health and well-being of our faculty and staff is essential to our university. It impacts your professional success, quality of life and ability to support students in their academic success. 

 

Resources For You

You can use your State health insurance for on-campus services like workplace screenings and programs to enhance your personal health and well-being. 

Pharmacy 
Fill your prescriptions without leaving campus and get over-the-counter medicine for colds, pain relief, acid reflux, allergies and other common problems.

Immunizations and Allergy Shots 
Get required vaccines before traveling, or bring in your serum to get your allergy shots without leaving campus. Call 803-777-9511 for information and appointments.

Mindfulness and Meditation
Come to the C.A.L.M. Oasis for mindfulness and meditation (Center for Health and Well-Being, room 215). Use the space for individual practice or to participate in guided learning or yoga with a trained facilitator. 

Gamecocks LiveWell 
Gamecocks LiveWell offers programs, services, initiatives and integrated benefits that support healthy lifestyle decisions and lead to measurable and successful outcomes for you and your workplace. 

  • Lunch and Learn Series: This four-workshop series for faculty and staff covers a holistic approach to physical activity, nutrition, sleep, and stress management. 
  • Bi-Annual Challenges: Join as an individual or a group in up to three challenges per year. Challenge areas include fitness, general wellness, self-care and more!

Workplace Screenings 
Offered with State insurance plans, the standard lab screening is FREE and includes: 

  • Lipid profile: Total cholesterol, low density lipoproteins (LDL), high density lipoproteins (HDL) and triglycerides
  • Chemistry profile: Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine, glucose and electrolytes
  • Hemogram: Red and white blood cell, hemoglobin and hematocrit
  • Blood pressure screening
  • Height and weight measurements

Wellness Coaching
Schedule your no-cost, one-on-one assessment and get a personalized plan for setting and achieving your wellness goals. Get support, guidance and encouragement in a judgement-free zone.

All sessions are free and can focus on:

  • Balanced eating
  • Physical activity
  • Stress management

Wellness Ambassadors
Wellness Ambassadors are a group of faculty and staff members who are committed to health and serve as champions of employee wellness.
Apply to become a Wellness Ambassador.

PEBA Perks
USC faculty, staff and retirees enrolled in the State Health Plan have access to free health management programs. These benefits help you to proactively monitor your health, make informed decisions that lead to healthier outcomes and address health issues early, before they become a health crisis.

Wondr Health
Wondr Health (formerly Naturally Slim) is a clinically-proven online program that teaches you how to lose weight and keep it off forever while still eating your favorite foods. State Health Plan members, including spouses and dependent children age 18 and older, are eligible to apply.

 

Resources For Your Department

Group wellness programs, workshops and other presentations are offered throughout the academic year and during seasonal breaks to help university faculty and staff meet their health and wellness goals.

Support Zone Faculty Training
The Support Zone Faculty training is a 150-minute comprehensive training that includes suicide prevention, instruction on how to recognize and respond to signs of distress in students. The goal of this training is to engage faculty as mental health allies and help them learn the basic components of suicide prevention, enhance knowledge of campus mental health resources, and rapid assessment and referral of students in distress. Participants will learn how to intervene at the mild, moderate, and severe levels of distress and how to refer students to the appropriate.


Gamecocks Stand Up
Participants are presented with an array of intervention strategies to utilize in their everyday lives and will engage in a group discussion about overcoming personal and societal barriers to bystander intervention. Information about on and off-campus resources will be provided.


Intimate Partner Violence Information Session
This course provides an in-depth overview of how to support an interpersonal violence survivor from the moment they disclose through whatever process the survivor chooses. The course will cover resources and options offered to survivors and an overview of processes associated with a survivor’s options. Participants will leave with an understanding of how interpersonal violence impacts all types of people and how to most effectively support a survivor.


SAVIP Services and Survivor Support

Gamecocks LiveWell: Certified Healthy Department
Creating a healthy work environment can help you attract and retain high quality employees. Select your wellness ambassador and apply to become a Certified Healthy Department at one of these levels:

Gold Level: 17 completed healthy department actions. 
Silver Level: 13 completed healthy department actions. 
Bronze Level: 10 completed healthy department actions

Help your students find the  health and well-being resources that can improve their well-being and academic success.

After Hours and Emergencies
Help is available 24/7 for emergencies, urgent care and students in crisis.


MyHealthSpace
Each student can access their medical records, schedule appointments and securely message with their provider through their MyHealthSpace portal.


Sexual Assault or Interpersonal Violence
Advocates are available 24/7 to students who are subjected to interpersonal violence. Call 803-777-8248 or drop in during open hours.


Medical Services
Encourage the students in your area to take advantage of the comprehesive health care available at the Center for Health and Well-Being. Call 803-777-3175.

Suicide Prevention
Help is available 24/7 for anyone struggling with thoughts of suicide or feelings of hopelessness. If you're thinking about suicide or know someone who is, reach out for help right away. Call or text 988.


Support After a Suicide
Your students can find online resources for support after a suicide and the professionals in Counseling and Psychiatry are here to help. Make an appointment by calling 803-777-5223.


Counseling and Psychiatry

Our trained staff of mental health professionals provide essential therapy and emotional wellness services for all USC students. Call 803-777-5223.


24-Hour and Online Support
Students can find support from counselors 24/7 by calling  833-664-2854.Additional online support can help them learn how to recognize signs of psychological distress in themselves and others.

Leadership Opportunities
Encourage your students to share their skills and help promote wellbeing on campus by getting involved as a peer leader or as part of the Healthy Carolina Coalition.


Sexual Health Resources
Your students can find a safe, judgment-free space for conversations about sex and relationships and provide information that can help them make informed decisions about sexual health. Call 803-777-1835.


Wellness Coaching
