Research & Reports

Fulfilling the research portion of our mission, here is a small sampling of current and past research projects.

Current Research

Recently, the Center received a Racial Justice and Equity Fund award from the University of South Carolina’s Office of the Vice President for Research to examine the legal histories of Southern school districts and the potential connection to current school inequalities seen today. Research is ongoing for this project.

Currently, the Center is developing research on recent civics education legislation nationwide by examining bipartisanship, narrative approach, and citizenship models.

Past Research

An in-depth analysis of the role of race in Southern states' adoption of constitutional provisions for local education funding and control after Reconstruction was completed by the Center. This project was funded in part by a grant through the University of South Carolina’s Office of the Vice President for Research. The Center will soon release a summary report of the research and analysis.
