Biography

Garrett Helms joined the faculty of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in August of 2010, with 14 years of experience as a therapist in the Columbia Area. Mr. Helms served as a clinician at Richland Springs, and Palmetto Health Psychiatric Services. While there, he served as: the primary therapist for adolescent partial hospitalization, Supervising therapist for Geriatric PHP, and was a therapist for Adult PHP. He was also the cognitive Behavioral Therapist for Intensive Outpatient, and served as the professional and Community liaison for Palmetto Health Psychiatric Services, as well.

Since leaving Palmetto Health, Mr. Helms has spent the last 12 years building a private practice, serving children, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations. Mr. Helms specializes in treating trauma-related behavioral health issues, anxiety disorders, behavioral disorders and affective disorders of all types. He also works with couples for the purposes of: relationship improvement, reconciliation or divorce counseling.
