Continuing Medical Education Organization receives recognitions

The University of South Carolina–Prisma Health Midlands Continuing Medical Education (USCSOM-PHM CME) Organization recently received recognition from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD).

As part of the Office of Continuous Professional Development and Strategic Affairs, the USCSOM-PHM CME Organization supports physicians by providing them formally accredited education to address their professional development needs across the broad and diverse range of their responsibilities as clinicians, educators, interprofessional team members, scientists, and leaders.

The division received a six year reaccreditation with commendation from the ACCME. Accreditation with Commendation is the highest level of accreditation possible and is awarded to providers who demonstrate: compliance in all required accreditation criteria and policies; implementation of best practices in pedagogy, engagement, evaluation, and change management; and advance the impact of education on healthcare professionals and patients.

The ACCME’s decision was based on an extensive review of the USCSOM-PHM CME Organization’s self-study report, examination of performance-in-practice activity files, engagement in support of system quality improvement initiatives, and the accreditation interview.

“Our team has worked diligently since our last reaccreditation to build our capacity to serve those professional development needs of our complex health system, our healthcare providers, and the teams for whom we provide CME,” says Matt Orr, Ph.D., continuous professional development and strategic affairs. “We are committed to continuing to provide high-quality educational activities and experiences that deepen learning and lead to more impactful outcomes for our patients and healthcare community.”

Additionally, the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) approved the UofSC School of Medicine-Prisma Health Continuing Medical Education dentistry program as a national PACE Approved provider. The AGD’s Program Approval for Continuing Education (PACE) promotes constant improvements in continuing education and makes finding CE easy.

This designation gives the USCSOM-PHM CME Organization the ability to provide continuing dental education (CDE) to meet the professional development needs of our complex health system, our healthcare providers, and the teams for whom we provide education.

The AGD’s decision was based on an extensive application review process that highlighted the USCSOM-PHM CME Organization’s ability to meet the guidelines and criteria of the AGD and evaluation of CDE activities that have been offered by our organization over the past twelve months.

“These recognitions are a clear indication of the exceptional work being done by the continuing medical education team. We are proud to be able to offer national-recognized programming for medical providers to ensure patients receive the highest quality of care,” says Les Hall, M.D., Dean of the UofSC School of Medicine Columbia.
