Alumni Spotlight: Dr. Ahmer Mohammad Ansari

SOMG Graduation Year

  • 2016 (Charter Class)

What are you doing professionally now?

  • Currently completing a Hematology and Oncology Fellowship at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. I practiced as an academic hospitalist at Prisma Health for 1 year after graduating from residency.

Best memory of your time at SOMG?

  • There are too many great memories from my time at SOMG! If I would choose one, it would be our EMT training. We were the charter class, and the first few weeks of EMT allowed us to get to know each other before getting started with the more difficult coursework of medical school. This led to strong bonds with my classmates that stayed throughout medical school and beyond.

How did your time at SOMG prepare you for where you are today?

  • I felt well prepared for medical practice after graduating from SOMG. Other than medical knowledge, the school also imparted key skills which have helped me in my career. These include an ability to stay calm in pressure situations, to challenge current norms to improve medicine, and to focus on continuously giving back to those in need. These skills are key parts of my identity as a physician. The school was successful in making me a “physician of the future.”

What person, course, or experience most influenced you while at SOMG?

  • The biggest thing that influenced me most at SOMG was the camaraderie with the other medical students and faculty. The school really fostered a supportive family-like atmosphere. This helped me always feel like I was part of a community. This was key in my success.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
